GISDATA Review Fall 2005 / Winter 2006
A New member of the CORINE Family

Since June 2005 the Republic of Croatia has completed a land cover database using CORINE methods. The project to build a land cover database was financially supported by both the European Parliament and the European Council.

The management, at a European level, is ensured by the European Environmental Agency (EEA), while the management at a national level is entrusted to the national authority. The Croatian Ministry of Environmental Protection, Physical Planning and Construction was the project coordinator and the Croatian Environmental Agency was assigned to be the topic center. This meant that the agency’s staff was included in the training process, and the equipment procured for the project was transferred to that agency. This multi-level management of the CORINE Land Cover (CLC) Croatia project ensured the smooth implementation of the project at national and European levels.
