In previous issues of GISDATA Review we have written about the biggest implementations of GIS within large cities across the region, those with populations of close to one million people, or for large governmental agencies and big telecom operators. This seemed to leave smaller cities or governmental agencies and telecom operators in smaller countries without mention. In addition, all the applications seemed to be custom-built, one-of-a-kind, just for thatspecific client’s specific business processes. But, here at GISDATA, we realized long ago that to best assist our users, many of them of medium or smaller size, it would be best if we provided a pre-developed application framework and therefore shortened and improved efficiency of their project lifecycles. We also realized we need to present successes from smaller countries. So, in this issue, we are focusing on presenting:
Ready-made application frameworks - CGF, the Collaborative GIS Framework, and its implementation in the city of Rovinj
CGF is an application-level platform for Intranet and Internet GIS implementation for local governments and similar users. CGF allows, not only for biggest, but also for medium and smaller size cities to quickly and efficiently implement GIS and start gaining the benefits over a very short period of time. It is GISDATA’s strategy to make our users GIS implementations easier, faster and more effective for multipleusers by providing these application frameworks to shorten the length of project cycles. CGF is not, of course, GISDATA’s first application framework since several telecom users in the region already benefit from GISDATA's LBSE for location related value added services within wireless networks.
Projects located in smaller countries - Macedonia
An impressive array of applications have already been implemented by Macedonian users with the assistance of GISDATA’s office in Skopje. Despite the size of their budgets, very effective applications can and have been built that assist in their every day operations. The Macedonian experience shows that the quality and efficiency of applications or ability to do world-class work is no longer conditional on the size of a country or whether it is a member of the EU or not. GISDATA Skopje - despite being based in a non-EU country - have also done projects directly with the EU Joint Research Center, located in Ispra, Italy.
As in previous issues of GISDATA Review the numerous other articles show the wide spectrum of solutions we offer and our culture of being genuinely interested in our user’s success.
We are looking forward to seeing you again at the GISDATA group user’s conferencesin the fall of 2005 and jointly exploring how we can build ever better solutionsfor you.
Mr. Boran Lončarić, GISDATA Group
